Propane Technology Strategy and Roadmaps

R&D Mission and Strategy > Propane Technology Strategy and Roadmaps

A focused technology strategy guides R&D activities to help achieve the bold vision and goals of the propane industry. The technology strategy of the propane industry, as laid out in the Propane Vision and Technology Roadmap, has three principal components

  • New Applications and Expanded Markets — The development of new applications and capitalization on emerging end-use technologies to create markets for new products and services while expanding sales to the existing customer base
  • Improved Industrial Productivity — The development of new tools, technologies, and practices to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of producing, distributing, and storing propane
  • Enabling Technologies and Infrastructure — The development of critical information systems, crosscutting technologies, and a supporting infrastructure to enable propane market growth and productivity improvements

Propane Vision and Technology Roadmap

The Research & Development Advisory Committee (RDAC) worked with people from across the industry to complete the Propane Vision and Technology Roadmap. It was developed over 18 months with input from 67 people industry-wide.

The Propane Vision and Technology Roadmap guides how and where R&D dollars should be invested to realize maximum growth potential for the propane industry over the next 10 years and beyond. This groundbreaking 50-page document:

  • Sets a strategic vision and goals for the propane industry
  • Maps out the most critical areas for R&D investment
  • Enables greater focus and more efficient use of dollars by eliminating redundancy in R&D efforts
  • Outlines a focused propane technology strategy

Propane Agriculture Roadmap

The Propane Agriculture Roadmap outlines a vision and strategic goals for expanding propane in agriculture. Developed through an effort led by the Agriculture Advisory Committee (AAC), this roadmap also includes:

  • Information on trends and drivers shaping propane use in agriculture
  • An overview of the AAC's dual approach (application-specific and enabling activities) to cultivating increased sales to farmers
  • An outline of the AAC's priority activities

The Agriculture Roadmap Supplement is an up-to-date version of the priorities and challenges identified in the original Roadmap. Also developed through an effort led by the Agriculture Advisory Committee (AAC), this Supplement:

  • Includes a plan based on lessons learned and prior accomplishments
  • Recognizes emerging needs in the agriculture and propane industries
