The purpose of the Propane Education & Research Council is to promote the safe, efficient use of odorized propane gas as a preferred energy resource through consumer and employee education and technology development and commercialization. The Propane Education and Research Act of 1996 (PERA) authorized the recreation of the Council, and propane producers and marketers in a referendum voted overwhelmingly to approve its formation.
