Gainesville Resident Wins Holiday Cooking Contest
Hearty Meal Showcases the Interesting Flavors and Entertainment Benefits of “Year-Round” Grilling with Propane
Washington, D.C. (February 15, 2006) — The winner of the Propane Education & Research Council’s 2005 holiday cooking contest is Lillian Julow of Gainesville, Florida. Julow won a cash prize of $1,000 towards the purchase of a new propane cooking appliance with her recipe, “Flank Steak with Crisp Polenta Croutons & Shallot Vinaigrette.”
“I live in a subdivision that doesn’t offer gas lines for heating and cooking, so I depend on my propane grill. And as a foodie who’s retired, I use it a lot,” Julow said. “I love the control and instant response it offers for this recipe.”
This trend in “year-round grilling” is providing an outlet for creative winter meals. In fact, according to a recent survey from the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association, 60 percent of Americans are grilling year-round and nearly half grill during winter months, including special occasions like the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day. The survey also revealed that Americans say grilling can add more flavor to their dishes and that it’s great for entertaining.
